The Spanish Football league LaLiga announced it has partnered with Dapper Labs, the blockchain company behind the popular collectibles games NBA Top Shot. According to a press release published on 22 September, the two will launch a new NFT experience that will provide fans with the ability to collect in-game moments from their favorite LaLiga teams.

Caty Tedman, the Head of Partnerships for Dapper Labs, said the experience the company is launching with LaLiga is “unlike anything seen in the space before.” Like NBA Topshot, Dapper Labs’ most popular product, the LaLiga experience will be built on the Flow blockchain and developed for consumer experiences at scale and is set to launch in 2022.

Aside from providing users with the ability to own and collect NFTs, the product will also provide fans with a way to be a part of the in-game action. A variety of fan activations will be developed around tentpole events during the season, such as enabling fans to enter contests to win trips to Barcelona to watch ElClasico, the biggest football game in the world, from a VIP Box at Camp Nou.

“With over 3.5 billion football fans around the globe, the experience’s layered environment has the power to revolutionize how fans connect to the sport of football and how they engage with the teams and the players they love, both virtually and in real life,” Tedman said in the release.”

Earlier this month, LaLiga announced partnerships with two other blockchain companies — Socios.com and Sorare — to introduce more opportunities for its fans to engage with the sport.
