Dapper Labs announced it has partnered with the National Football League (NFL) and the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) on a new NFT deal. According to a press release published on 29 September, the deal will drive fan engagement by letting fans collect digital video highlight NFTs of the best plays of the season.
Joe Ruggiero, the Senior Vice President of Consumer Products at the NFL, said the league believes blockchain technology has great potential to enhance the NFL fan experience. Dapper Labs is one of the first blockchain companies the league has partnered with and is excited to explore the emerging NFT space, he added in the release.
When the experience launches, fans will be able to purchase NFT packs featuring their favorite NFL players, and trade their collections with other users. Through a dedicated marketplace built on Dapper Labs’ Flow blockchain, users will also be able to buy, sell, and showcase their collections. The experience is set to launch later this season.
“The irreplaceable nature of the NFT captures what is special about sports fandom,” said Steve Scebelo, the President of NFL Players Inc. “The unique greatness of NFL players will continue to fuel memorable moments both in history and in real-time during the season, which will only deepen the connections they have with their passionate fans.”
Earlier this month, Dapper Labs also entered into a partnership with Spain’s premier football league LaLiga to launch a similar NFT experience for the league’s fans.
