Amazon Web Services (AWS) now allows its customers to provision Ethereum nodes through its Amazon Managed Blockchain, the retail giant’s cloud computing subsidiary said in a blog post on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, AWS users will not only have access to to the Ethereum mainnet through its Amazon Managed Blockchain (AMB), but will also be able to connect to testnets such as Ropsten and Rinkeby. The company also stated that its AMB will offer a secure access to the network through the standard “open-source Ethereum APIs”, fast and reliable syncs to the Ethereum blockchain, as well as “durable elastic storage” for ledger data.
In addition, AMB will improve the availability of customers’ Ethereum infrastructure by monitoring the health of nodes — replacing the unhealthy ones — and automate all Ethereum software upgrades. AWS added in its blog post:
“In addition to DeFi applications, customers building analytical products such as smart contract monitoring tools and fraud detection software can also benefit from this scalable, highly available, and fully managed Ethereum service on Amazon Managed Blockchain.”
Launched in April 2019, the AMB has the goal of allowing businesses to develop and set up blockchain networks quickly and at a lower cost, by eliminating the need to “provision hardware, install software, create and manage certificates for access control, and configure network settings”. While Ethereum’s integration is brand new, AMB has already been supporting Hyperledger Fabric, an enterprise grade permissioned blockchain network.
