Famous memecoin Dogecoin (DOGE) has received an upgrade to its core software, improving the security and network efficiency, developers behind the token tweeted on 21 July.
According to the GitHub paper, Dogecoin Core 1.14.6 has introduced a number of essential security updates, changes to the network efficiency, modifications to the existing fee structure, and several new features. Developers behind the memecoin urged all network participants — miners, services, relay operators and wallet users — to quickly upgrade to the latest version.
Security-related updates include changes to the current alert messages system and improvements to the transaction download system. The developers have further enhanced the memory management of the network to improve its efficiency during congestions, and also amended the protocol to reject “buggy or malformed messages”.
The dust limit of the Dogecoin network — a threshold that determines the minimum amount of currency used to process a transaction on the chain — was also reduced from 1 DOGE to 0.01 DOGE. The core upgrade will allow wallet operators to identify if any transactions are stuck, and also enable node operators to change the maximum number of connections of their node without the need of restart.
