A new documentary series focusing on the blockchain project Dragonchain is set to air on popular U.S. TV channel Discovery Science, Vision Tree Media announced on 29 May.

Called “Open Source Money”, the five-part documentary series about the Disney-incubated blockchain company Dragonchain is scheduled to premier on Discovery Science on 4 July. Fully financed with over $1 million in cryptocurrency, and produced by media and technology firm Vision Tree, the documentary will also cover the global evolution of the crypto and blockchain industries.

The company has said:

“The successful launch of the Open Source Money series is critical because it will help put cryptocurrency and blockchain technology on the map, as well as in the hands of more people passionate to make a change in the world.”

The new TV series will tell the “untold, heroic story of Dragonchain”, a company that raised more than $13.7 million in its 2017 token sale, and which is building a platform where enterprises can securely store data on a blockchain. Each of the five episodes will focus on the role people like Patrick Byrne, Brock Pierce, Joe Roets, and companies such as Disney and Facebook played in the blockchain space.

Vision Tree has also worked on the upcoming motion picture “Atari: Fistful of Quarters”, a movie which also saw the participation of Appian Way, Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company. The crypto wing of retail giant Overstock, tZERO, partnered with the producers of the Atari movie back in 2019, in order to tokenize the forthcoming motion picture.

The movie will be a biographical film about Nolan Bushnell, the American businessman and engineer who founded the computer and video game console manufacturer Atari Corporation.

The chief executive officer of Overstock, Patrick Byrne, said at the time:

“We have been looking for the team to crack the code for Hollywood and bring much needed transparency and accountability to an industry that has been historically resistant to change. This is an extremely impressive team and we are thrilled to bring the tZERO tech stack to the movie industry.”
