According to a report from Bloomberg, the five-star Chedi Andermatt will accept payments in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) but will consider adding other cryptocurrency options in the future. To facilitate the payments, the resort will partner with payment service providers Worldline and Bitcoin Suisse. The two will immediately convert all cryptocurrency payments to Swiss francs once transactions are confirmed, shielding the hotel from price volatility.

Jean-Yves Blatt, the General Manager at the Chedi, said that the hotel was making a clear statement to its guest that it’s open to new technologies. The new payment experience will act as an additional service to its five-star clientele, he said in the interview.

The Chedi opened in 2013 and is owned and operated by Samih Sawiris, an Egyptian real-estate billionaire. The resort reportedly began considering accepting cryptocurrency payments in 2017 but waited until it was able to ensure a secure payment channel that would resist large price fluctuations.

This isn’t the first time a luxury hotel opened itself to cryptocurrencies—earlier this year the Kessler Collection luxury hotel group partnered with BitPay to accept crypto payments.

However, companies such as Travala and Lockbit have made cryptocurrency payments accessible to a larger number of users. Last year, the company established partnerships with Expedia and Agoda to add over 1 million hotels and holiday homes to its offer, providing users with the opportunity with a more affordable booking option.
