Owners of Swipe’s Visa card can now use their Samsung smartphones and smartwatches to make payments with their cryptocurrency thanks to a new partnership, the firm said in a press release on 01 May.

According to the announcement, the new partnership will allow users to directly connect their Swipe debit card to Samsung Pay, the mobile giant’s payment platform, and make day to day transactions with it. The collaboration will allow Swipe cardholders in the United Kingdom and the European Union to use their crypto balances at over 50 million locations globally.

Joselito Lizarondo, Swipe’s CEO, said:

“We are excited to bring Samsung Pay for our cardholders. This integration and relationship with Samsung will open cryptocurrency adoption and make transacting with our Visa card in Euros converted by crypto seamless.”

The relationship between Swipe and Samsung was formed through their mutual issuing bank Contis Financial. The firm has also claimed to be the first digital wallet platform that provides national support to both Samsung Pay and Google Pay, the mobile payments platform of the search engine giant. Swipe entered into a partnership with the internet giant back in March 2020.

Swipe’s CEO further said in the press release that he is optimistic about the surge of digital transactions globally, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

He said:

“Given all of the COVID-19 issues and people steering away from physical products like cash and, in some instances cards, a digital solution really helps put our client’s needs first.”

Swipe has also recently received approval for operations in the U.S., thanks to Visa’s TPA program. The next goal of the company is expansion into the Southeast Asia/Asia Pacific region, which the company hopes to do “by the end of the year”.
